Rescue Report: Campania, Italy
In early 2025, our friends in the Italian Cirneco dell’Etna community were alerted to an emergency rescue situation involving 15 Cirnechi in the Campania region. Thanks to quick action, all the dogs were spared from being taken to the canile (animal shelter or pound), where their futures would be uncertain. Instead, they received the love and care they deserved.
Because of the hard work of advocates on the ground, the Cirnechi found safety and began to recover from their ordeal. Boarding, transportation, documents, signatures, vaccinations, certifications, and transfers were all organized in just a matter of days! After careful vetting, 12 of the 15 were placed in happy homes around Europe. The three remaining Cirnechi were brought to the United States for rehoming.
The Cirneco Foundation assisted from afar by hosting a fundraiser which brought in $2,631.28. A portion of those donations was used along with Foundation funds to cover transport fees, spaying and dental costs. We are grateful to our foster homes for volunteering to shoulder the costs of caring for the dogs temporarily in their care. To date, over $5,000.00 has gone toward these rescue efforts.
Update (April 2026)
One of the three Cirnechi now in the U.S. has found her forever home!
We are currently fielding inquiries about and applications for the two remaining females who are now available for adoption. Please see our Available Cirnechi section for more information and how to apply.
